A neutron beam, which is incident to the sextupole magnet, either converges or diverges depending on the neutron spin state. Small-angle neutron scattering in focusing geometry (FSANS) was proposed to improve the q-resolution and/or measuring efficiency. The MNL is considered to be the most suitable focusing device for FSANS experiments using a polarized neutron beam, since it focuses the polarized neutron beam free from neutron attenuation and scattering by substances. Recently, we have developed the MNLs with sufficiently large apertures and strong focusing power for FSANS experiments. In this study, we evaluate the focusing property of the MNLs for the polarized neutron beam, and performed FSANS experiments using the MNL. The obtained results are discussed.

The neutron-focusing is an indispensable technical element in the experments under extreme condition with tiny samples. In this article, the development of the thermal neutron focusing device is reported. The device has 18 pieces of the 3Q NiC/Ti neutron supermirrors with the shape of a circle. The extension of the end of each mirror meets at a focal point (sample position). Neutrons are repeatedly reflected with the same angle by the inner side of the circle and arrive at the sample position. The test results show that the integrated intensity increases by a factor of 2 or more for the neutron wavelength of 2.36AA .

To supply the waste samples simulating MCCI products for fluorination examination, the oxide melt samples consisting of (U,Zr,Gd)O and concrete were prepared by light-concentrating heating technique. Cross section of the solidified sample was observed and analyzed to identify the micro structure and phases.

To provide specimens for the fluorination experiment, the simulated MCCI product was prepared from core materials placed on a concrete piece by light-concentrating heating technique under temperature gradient. As a result of analysis on the cross-section, we confirmed that (1) (U, Zr)O contained small amount of Fe, Cr, Ca and Al, (2) Cr and most part of Fe in stainless steel were oxidized by dehydration of concrete to precipitate as FeCrO spinel in the silicate glass.
